What is that book with the stepdad named Dutch.?

K, I read this in like 10th grade and im looking for it now but i can't remember the name of the book or the author, or even the main character at that. All i remember is that the mom marries a abusive man named Dutch and his dog is named Duke. And, they are trying to figure out what happened to his son cause his son is dead. But near the end the mother gets hit by a train. So if anyone knows or can figure it out. I remember the cover was red with a raven and a belt buckle on the front and a grave yard on the back. It looks pretty creepy. But I could sure use the help!
