Why don't book experts wear gloves when handling valuable volumes?

I assume you have been watching "Who Do You Think You Are" Chances are those volumes are not originals but are rather copies of originals that have been made to look antique for the purpose of the show. No expert in their right mind is going to let an untrained individual handle a one of a kind irreplaceable document gloves or not no matter how famous they are
