Can you buy a belt without a buckle?

My boyfriend a long long time ago bought this belt buckle that doubled as a bottle opener...and thought it was the coolest thing. But he never got around to actually getting the belt. And probably never will...call it a forgotten project. Anyhow, as part of his Vday gift, I thought I would buy him a belt for that buckle...but how does that work? Do I just buy a belt with no buckle? Does it take a certain type of belt?
